Gradient-based joint block diagonalization algorithms: Application to blind separation of FIR convolutive mixtures

چکیده
This article addresses the problem of the non-unitary joint block diagonalization of a given set of complex matrices. Two new algorithms are provided: the first is based on a classical gradient approach and the second is based on a relative gradient approach. For each algorithm, two versions are provided: the fixed stepsize and the optimal stepsize version. Computer simulations are provided to illustrate the behavior of both algorithms in different contexts. Finally, it is shown that these algorithms enable solving the problem of the blind separation of finite impulse response (FIR) convolutive mixtures of (non-stationary correlated) sources. We focus on methods based on the use of spatial quadratic time–frequency spectra or distributions. The suggested approach main advantage is to enable the elimination of the spatial whitening of the observations which has been proven to establish a bound with regard to the best reachable performances in the blind sources separation context. & 2009 Elsevier B.V. A Unified Presentation of Blind Separation Methods for Convolutive Mixtures Using Block-diagonalization
We address in this paper a unified presentation of previous works by A. Belouchrani, K. Abed-Meraim and co-authors about separation of FIR convolutive mixtures using (joint) block-diagonalization. We first present general equations in the stochastic context. Then the implementation of the general method is studied in practice and linked with previous works for stationary and non-stationary sour...
متن کاملA Joint Diagonalization Method for Convolutive Blind Separation of Nonstationary Sources in the Frequency Domain
A joint diagonalization algorithm for convolutive blind source separation by explicitly exploiting the nonstationarity and second order statistics of signals is proposed. The algorithm incorporates a non-unitary penalty term within the cross-power spectrum based cost function in the frequency domain. This leads to a modification of the search direction of the gradient-based descent algorithm an...
متن کاملBlind Signal Separation of Convolutive Mixtures: A Time-Domain Joint-Diagonalization Approach
We address the blind source separation (BSS) problem for the convolutive mixing case. Second-order statistical methods are employed assuming the source signals are non-stationary and possibly also non-white. The proposed algorithm is based on a joint-diagonalization approach, where we search for a single polynomial matrix that jointly diagonalizes a set of measured spatiotemporal correlation ma...
متن کاملBlind source separation of convolved sources by joint approximate diagonalization of cross-spectral density matrices
In this paper we present a new method for separating non-stationary sources from their convolutive mixtures based on approximate joint diagonalizing of the observed signals’ cross-spectral density matrices. Several blind source separation (BSS) algorithms have been proposed which use approximate joint diagonalization of a set of scalar matrices to estimate the instantaneous mixing matrix. We ex...
متن کاملBlind Separation of Convolutive Mixtures a Contrast-based Joint Diagonalization Approach
Blind Separation of convolutive mixtures and Blind Equalization of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) channels are two different ways of naming the same problem, which we address here. The numerical algorithm, subsequently presented in detail, is based on theoretical results on contrasts recently published by the authors [1]. This algorithm consists of Partial Approximate Joint Diagonalizati...
